THE Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), has urged people, particularly young men, to take extra care in and around water.

As hot weather is set to continue, the organisation urged people to take extra care if they are going to enter water, after 381 people drowned in accidents across the UK last year, 185 of whom were in canals, rivers and lakes.

RoSPA has advised people to swim at properly-supervised sites, such as beaches, lidos or swimming pools, if at all possible.

It has also said that people should enter the water slowly, only swim sober, and when not at a supervised site, go with other people and make sure you know what to do if someone gets into difficulty.
