AN online project has begun to argue Yorkshire deserves special minority status.
The research follows Cornwall being granted the status earlier this year, and was launched by Doctor Pete Woodcock, from the University of Huddersfield.
Dr Woodcock, who was born in Cornwall, said: “My feeling is that Cornish people regard themselves as Cornish and not English.
“I don’t think Yorkshire people regard being both Yorkshire and English is too much of a contradiction.”
It is hoped that with regional identity in the spotlight ahead of the Scottish Independence vote, Dr Woodcock’s research could play a key role in whether English counties such as Yorkshire will push for special minority status in the future.
