NORTH Yorkshire is to get 15,000 new trees as part of national effort to reforest the country.
Schools and community groups like Brownies, Scouts and gardening clubs have received tree saplings from the Woodland Trust to help make the county greener and healthier.
John Tucker, the Trust’s director of woodland creation said: “Planting these free trees will not only help people make their schools and neighbourhoods greener and healthier, it’s also a great chance for people to do something meaningful for their local community.”
Bishopthorpe Infant School, Cundall Manor School and Burton Green Primary School are just some of the schools already benefiting from the scheme with a further seven packs given to York schools.
Only 13 per cent of the UK is wooded, compared to 44 per cent on the continent but the Trust want to double the number of trees.

The tree packs have been funded by partners IKEA and Biffa Award, and by WH Smith, Wilko, Nicky and players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
