People suffering from mental health problems and learning difficulties in York have benefited from a service to provide them with new jobs and other opportunities.

Now the charity which runs the Hut, on Wigginton Road, is hosting an open day on May 9 to celebrate their achievements.

The event, taking place from noon to 3pm, will present some of the project’s most striking success stories.

VIP visitors such as the Lord Mayor of York, Julie Gunnell, will also get the chance to learn about the various activities with presentations by volunteers and members.

Manager Rachel Barber, of the Clarence Garden’s Association, the charity which runs the Hut, said: “We have much to celebrate.

“For example, in the last seven months we have supported seven volunteers into full time employment.”
