Tories stay in control in Harrogate

THE Conservatives have maintained their grip on Harrogate Borough Council after the local election results were confirmed today.

The party lost one of their seats on the authority to an independent candidate, but remain in overall control with 33 councillors.

The Liberal Democrats now have 17 seats on the council, with the Liberals having one and the independents three. The Harrogate poll saw 16 rural seats being contested, a third of the overall authority.

The Tories also stayed in control of neighbouring Craven District Council, but lost two seats. They now have 16 councillors on the authority, with the independents having ten and the Liberal Democrats four.
