Burst tyre starts A1 fire

A VAN caught fire on a stretch of one of North Yorkshire’s busiest roads after one of its tyres burst.
The blowout led to the wheel drums on the Mercedes Sprinter van overheating and the vehicle catching fire just after 6pm on Monday on the southbound section of the A1 between its junctions at Boroughbridge and Allerton Park.
No one was injured, with firefighters from Boroughbridge, Harrogate and Knaresborough being called to the scene.
