Growing for gold at Harlow Carr gardens

HARLOW Carr gardens in Harrogate is to host a week of events to mark National Gardening Week.

It is putting on a series of themed days which aim to appeal to gardeners of all ages and abilities.

The week of April 16-22 will see horticultural experts and Harlow Carr’s own resident gardeners on hand to explain to the public how they keep the floral displays in top condition.

There will be also be guided tours of the garden and a series of talks on specific plants.

Budding gardeners wishing to pursue a career in the horticulture industry are invited to the RHS site on Wednesday to meet workers who specialise in trades including willow weaving and tree surgery, while the “family weekend” on the Saturday and Sunday will keep the kids entertained with activities such as sunflower planting and worm charming.

Special guests include BBC radio presenter Joe Maiden and floral designer Paul Pryke.
