A LORRY driver has been arrested after a crash which left a cyclist in critical condition.
The 58-year-old cyclist suffered serious head injuries when he was hit by a black and red Volvo lorry in Otley Road, between Arthurs Avenue and West End Avenue in Harrogate, at just after 6pm last night.
He was taken to Harrogate District Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
North Yorkshire Police said the lorry did not stop at the scene of the incident, and officers traced the vehicle to an address in Knaresborough where they arrested a 73-year-old man on suspicion of failing to stop after a road accident. He has since been released on police bail.
Specialist crash investigators remained at the scene until 10.20pm when the road was reopened, and have appealed to anyone who saw the incident to contact them.
Anyone with information should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team, or email MCIT@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
