RESIDENTS across North Yorkshire have been urged to ensure their homes are secure this Christmas.
More than 80 North Yorkshire Police took part in a day of crime prevention in Harrogate and Selby, speaking to hundreds of people and putting up posters in local shops.
Officers also reported a number of door-to-door sellers to trading standards during the event, which was part of Operation Hawk and aimed to protect residents from criminals.
Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “Our priority was to offer a visible presence in our rural communities and offer them as much advice as possible about protecting themselves from the threat of burglars and bogus callers.
