TWO lectures organised by York St John University will take place this week.

The St Wilfrid lecture series continues with a presentation by Dr Diana Francis, a consultant and writer in the field of conflict transformation and peacebuilding.

She will discuss Peace in the Global Neighbourhood: Reflections from Personal Engagement at the free lecture which takes place at Ripon Cathedral on Thursday at 7pm.

Tickets for the lectures, which are free, are available from the Cathedral Office, by emailing judithbustard@riponcathedral.org.uk or calling 01765 603462.

The next Go York lecture at York St John University will be hosted by the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Alyson Tobin on the same day.

Her lecture, Seeing the invisible: understanding the physiology of plant cells, will demonstrate how our understanding of the workings of plants and plant cells has progressed through advances in technology from microscopy through to genetic modification.

The lecture will take place in De Grey Lecture Theatre on Thursday at 6.30pm, with an arrival reception from 5.45pm.

The lecture is free and open to all members of the local community.
