HARROGATE Borough Council is moving on with plans to transfer to new purpose-built headquarters at its Knapping Mount site.

On Wednesday, the council voted to go ahead with the proposals after a public consultation earlier this year resulted in 57 per cent of responses supporting the plan for a single purpose-built office.

A third proposal – for a new-build site in Hornbeam Park – has since been assessed and rejected and the council is now working on a planning application for the new site, and looking for quotes, before making a final decision next summer.

Council leader Richard Cooper said the savings an energy-efficient purpose-built office, with all staff in one place, could bring would help fund council services.

Two drop-in sessions will now be held to tell people more about the plans on Saturday, October 18, from 11am-4pm at Victoria Shopping Centre and on Wednesday, October 22, from 2-7pm at Knapping Mount.

There will also be a public exhibition giving people a chance to see design concepts at the council’s Crescent Gardens offices and at Harrogate Library for two weeks from Monday, October 20, and will be available online at harrogate.gov.uk/officeproject from Wednesday, October 15.
