A CENTRE which has served its community for more than 150 years has undergone a £250,000 refurbishment.

The Wesley Centre in Harrogate is to reopen later this month following improvement work done at its Oxford Street premises.

The new centre, previously known as the Wesley Chapel, will open to the public on September 27 and 28.

The refurbishment, managed by the Nidd Valley Methodist Circuit, includes new double-glazing, furniture and updated kitchen facilities for the Grade-2 listed building, whilst the pews from the building’s Upper Hall have been replaced by moveable seats.

The centre continues the Christian outreach and service carried out for 200 years by the Methodist Chapel.

Opening celebrations will include a piano recital from students and staff at the Chetham’s School of Music as well as tours of the new facilities.
