SINGERS are being invited to take part in a charity performance of Handel’s Messiah in Ripon Cathedral on Saturday, October 18.

The concert is raising funds towards practical support for families who are living in Gaza, through the work of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

MAP is a registered UK charity working for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.

Sue Cooke, who is organising the cathedral concert, said: “I am planning to bring together a chorus of 200 singers to fill Ripon Cathedral with the glorious music of Handel’s most famous choral work.

“We want to raise the roof and reach a target of £2,000 for MAP’s ongoing projects for malnourished the children living in Gaza.

“If you enjoy singing, now is the time to sign up for this unique event.”

Rehearsal for singers begins at 1pm and the concert starts at 7pm.

For those who prefer not to sing, the evening performance will include a chamber orchestra under the musical direction of Alistair Hardie.

Tickets for singers and the audience members are priced at £14.
