YOUNG singers hope to help ease loneliness among older people by staging a fundraising concert.

Rock Up and Sing!’s Youth Choir in Harrogate will be performing at St Peter’s Church in the town in aid of the Supporting Older People charity which offers trips out, regular meet-ups and home visits for people.

Choir director Rhiannon Gayle said: “Loneliness and isolation are real problems for many elderly people in the Harrogate area and it’s only through the work of charities like Supporting Older People that those issues are tackled so effectively.

“Our Youth Choir members are very keen to show their support for older members of the community and help to tackle the problems they face by taking part in this concert. Supporting Older People also has its own singing group, which is a very popular way for older people to socialise and have fun – something all our choir members can appreciate.”

Accompanied by pianist Katie Bell, the Youth Choir will perform a range of rock and pop songs including Proud, Your Song, Life In A Northern Town and Hey Soul Sister. The concert, on Saturday, September 27 at 7.30pm, will also feature Harrogate Male Voice Choir.

Tickets priced at £10, including refreshments, are available by calling on 01423 508500 or from Supporting Older People on 01423 531490, or buy them at Pomp & Circumstance at 22 Commercial Street.
