ELDERLY patients have been moved out of their home in Harrogate amid concerns over safety - and an investigation is going on after the death of a resident.

Twelve people who received nursing care at Alexander Court in Harrogate have been moved, and a spokesman for North Yorkshire County Council’s adult care services said both they and Harrogate’s NHS Clinical Commission Group (CCG) have had concerns about the facility for “some time.”

He added: “These concerns include a variety of issues, ranging from medication and nursing care to the comfort and the dignity with which residents are treated.”

The council and CCG are now finding alternative accommodation for the 12 nursing care residents, and are already making contingency plans in case they have to move the remaining residents, who don’t need nursing care, away from the home.

A damning report into the home was published in June by the Care Quality Commission, and the commission took enforcement action over the way residents’ medicines were managed and over staff training.

Care home provider Esteem Care have issued a statement offering their condolences to the family of William O’Connell, who died at the home earlier this month, and added: “There is a current investigation under way. Alexander Court remains dedicated to the safeguarding of all clients; every measure is being taken to maintain a safe environment.”
