A POPULAR part of a North Yorkshire heritage site is due for a makeover.

The work means the National Trust’s Victorian tearoom at Studley Royal, near Ripon, in North Yorkshire will be closed from Monday to Friday, February 15.

Award-winning interior designer Rachel Poad has created a warm and cosy concept for the lakeside tearoom, which has stunning views across Studley Royal deer park.

Historic images of the tearoom and lakeside will be on display to show visitors how the area would have looked in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The external forecourt of the tearoom has also recently been improved by the estate’s building team, laying York stone flags to improve access to the building and garden.

An historic postcard, pictured above, with a postmark of 1928, shows how the tearoom looked in the early 20th century, and has helped the team at the World Heritage Site plan the external work.
