Graffiti vandals hunted by police

VANDALS who have blighted Harrogate with graffiti are being hunted by police.

Officers have released a number of images of the daubings in a bid to trace those responsible.

The vandals struck between December 17 and 29 in the underpass leading from Norwood Grove to the Hydro from Oakbank and on telephone exchange boxes on Euclid Avenue, Hartwith Road and Jennyfield Drive.

PCSO Michael Smith, of Harrogate Police, said: “This type of mindless vandalism is utterly pointless.”

"...mindless vandalism is utterly pointless" Unfortunately for the rest of us, graffiti vandals do have a method to their madness. Graffiti writers seek to promote themselves, their group or crew, or a message, and they experience a rush of excitement in getting their graffiti up. As noted at www.DefacingAmerica.
com , many graffiti writers view their markings as harmless self expression and often times see the graffiti as an improvement to the community. We need to do more to stop graffiti vandalism. We can start by fostering attitudes among kids that see graffiti for what it is - harmful, destructive to neighborhoods and expensive.
