ANDREW Jones, the MP for Knaresborough and Harrogate, has welcomed news that the Government is cutting taxes for 36,085 people and taking 1,833 people completely out of tax in his constituency next April. Anyone under 65 will have an increase in their personal allowance of £235, taking it up by £1,335 to £9,440.

For someone earning £20,000, this means that the amount they have had to pay on tax and national Insurance has fallen from £4,280 in 2010 to £3,580 in 2013/14. This is a tax reduction of £700.

Mr Jones said: “This is positive news for working people and families; they will really notice the change as they will see it in their pay packet.

“Unemployment has fallen for the last for nine months in our area, and this tax cut helps drive demand in the economy which will further boost jobs.”
