Northallerton cinema boost

FILM lovers in Northallerton will be able to enjoy a new digital cinema thanks to a grant from the local authority.

Hambleton District Council has agreed to invest £70,000 in Hambleton Forum from today, including £22,000 to purchase state-of-the-art digital cinema equipment for underserved rural communities.

The forum, working with the council and Cine Yorkshire, will also install satellite equipment at the venue, enabling it to screen live broadcasts from the National Theatre.

Cine Yorkshire Project manager Rachel McWatt said: ‘The support and enthusiasm of both the local community and Hambleton District Council has been critical to the success of the cinema, which now programmes more regular film slots to reflect increasing audience demand and we look forward to continuing to support the new Forum Group as it embarks on this exciting new phase.’’
