Long-serving Thirsk councillor dies, 80

A LONG-SERVING former North Yorkshire councillor has died at the age of 80.
David Murkett, who served on Hambleton District Council for 28 years, lost his battle against cancer on Sunday.
After moving to Thirsk in 1978, Coun Murkett was elected to the council the following year.
He was made an honorary alderman last year. A funeral and memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Thirsk on Friday, April 27 at 1pm.
