A North Yorkshire primary school has become the first in the region to install a wind turbine in its grounds.
Pannal Primary School in Harrogate is hoping the turbine will help educate the pupils about the environment while providing 17,000 kilowatts of free electricity every year.
Head teacher Liv Elvidge said: "The children were thrilled to watch the turbine slowly being assembled and winched into place and even more excited to see the turbine blades spinning in the breeze."
The school has audited its electricity consumption to compare costs before and after the the installation. Any excess electricity not used by the school will be fed back into the National Grid.
Energy-saving light fittings have already been installed around the school to ensure the turbine is used to its maximum effect.
