The Minster School stands in its own grounds on Deangate. Its central position means that it enjoys all the benefits of historic York's city centre whilst enjoying the relative tranquillity of the Minster precinct.
The school is a co-educational preparatory school with its own bright and well resourced Pre-Prep and Nursery department housed in a fine Georgian building adjacent to the East end of York Minster.There are some 180 children in the school aged between 3-13 years of age, including the boy and girl choristers of York Minster.
A broad and challenging curriculum is offered together with the spiritual and moral values that are at the core of the ethos of this Cathedral School.
The school has an excellent academic record and art, music and drama are particular strengths. Individual music tuition is offered on all orchestral instruments and there are many ensembles, choirs and orchestras. 8 acres of playing fields offer ample scope for sporting activity.
The traditional, family feel of the school was singled out in a recent inspection, together with the quality of the teaching as a major strength of the school.
