PUPILS at St Barnabas’ Primary School in York held a festival of Fairtrade-related activities.

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, which ends on Sunday, pupils and their families were invited to a tea party at the school with musical performances, a stall selling Fairtrade products, Fairtrade chocolate tasting and quizzes with prizes donated by York shops.

The event was intended to help increase the school community’s understanding of the ideas behind the organisation.

Vikki Pendry, sustainable schools coordinator, said: “The pupils have done a great job. They have certainly made a good case for celebrating the work that farmers do to grow coffee, bananas and cocoa, and the need for Fairtrade.”
