ENTREPRENEURIAL pupils held an Apprentice-style competition at York’s Designer Outlet at the weekend.
Dozens of teenagers from four schools from in and around the York took on students from Knaresborough, Harrogate, Selby, Bedale and Ripon as well as others from Hull and Halifax in the city’s answer to Lord Sugar’s Young Apprentice programme.
Each team that took part in the 2012 North Yorkshire Young Enterprise Trade Fair was challenged to set up a pitch in the shopping centre and had a day to attract as many customers as they could.
The teams then showcased and sold their products to the public, as well as professional businessmen and entrepreneurs taking on the role of mystery shoppers.
The event included Summit from St Peter’s School in York, selling T-shirts emblazoned with the students’ art, Clear Skies and Two 2 New from York’s Huntington School, selling vintage clothes and scarves and ice breakers and Top ‘n’ Tale from Burnholme Community College selling craftware.
Their aim was to outsell their rivals to be in with a chance of scooping the title of Yorkshire Young Enterprise Company Of The Year.
