PLANS for a horse hospital and training centre in York could be approved this week.
The Minster Veterinary Practice and Askham Bryan College have applied to City of York Council to open a centre which would be used by students taking courses such as equine management and veterinary nursing.
The centre, planned for land to the north of the college’s science building, would employ 23 people, with staff transferred from the practice’s other surgeries. The commercial side of the operation would enable it to increase the veterinary services it currently offers.
Planning officers at the council have recommended approval of the scheme, which would see seven single-storey buildings and a visitor car park constructed within the college grounds. A decision will be made by a planning sub-committee on Thursday.
The practice has said its existing surgeries would remain open although its equine services would move from Poppleton to the college site.
