THE relevance of subjects such as science and technology became apparent to pupils attending an event at Joseph Rowntree School.
Children from Haxby Road Primary School, Headlands Primary School and Wigginton Primary School were invited to the STEM – science, technology engineering and mathematics – fair as part of a bid to put school lessons in a real-life context.
Students learned how to make a credit-card-sized torch and got to ride a mechanical horse among other activities.
Dave Wilson, a science teacher at Joseph Rowntree School, said: “The STEM Fairs have been held annually for several years now and have proven to be instrumental in smoothing the transition for many pupils as they progress from primary to secondary school. The fairs have been available to all our feeder schools and have been supported with enthusiasm by pupils, staff and workshop providers.”
