A sound installation in the foyer of the music research centre at the University of York proved a big attraction for visitors and concert-goers.
Part of the Spring Festival Of New Music, the installation was accessible during the day and before and after evening concerts that formed part of the festival, which drew to a close on Saturday.
The interactive installation, created by London-based artist Leafcutter John, was inspired by ideas from leading-edge physics, in particular fusion energy – the process which powers stars that scientists hope to harness as a source of clean fuel.
Physicists at the University of York lead research in this area and an MSc in Fusion Energy is starting in October 2009.
