A TEACHER has written a book about his school’s history.

Deputy head teacher Steve Fearnley has written A History Of Malton School, which details the events that have happened at the school since it was founded in 1547.

At the book’s official launch last week, Mr Fearnley gave a talk on how he had written the book, along with a brief summary of each of the chapters.

There was also a sneak preview of the photographs in the book, which included many members of the audience in their younger days.

He said: “It was wonderful to meet up with the people I was in touch with when I was writing the book.

“Some of them travelled great distances: former pupil Simon Crozier and his wife came over from Germany; author David Lloyd travelled up from Shropshire; and Angela Williams, daughter of a former headteacher, travelled from Shipley in West Yorkshire.”

Head teacher Robert Williams said: “As a historian I am delighted to learn about the school’s history, which dates back to the reign of Henry VIII.

“I am also proud that our school is not standing still, but embracing modern day technologies and the new challenges of education in the 21st century.

The book is on sale at the school at a price of £15, and it is available from Hoppers bookshop in Malton at a small mark-up.
