LIFE has taken a tropical turn for children at a primary school in York.
The reception class children at St Lawrence’s CE School have fully embraced the new early years foundation stage curriculum for pupils aged five and under, which looks at play-based learning.
They have created a jungle in the corner of their classroom, and have been using the space to learn about jungle creatures and different kinds of music.
Janet Rickatson, early years leader, said: “We started the children off at the beginning of term by asking them about things they liked. A lot of them said animals, so we worked for a fortnight on farm animals and have progressed on to the jungle. It’s been a huge success.”
