STAFF at York College have begun their latest recruitment drive, with the launch of the 2009/10 prospectus.

The document is being distributed to all schools in and around York, outlining what courses are available for 16 to 19-year-olds.

Lucy Ogram, the college’s senior schools and college liaison officer said: “Year on year, we see York College students celebrating excellent exam results and when you see the huge range of A-level and vocational courses featured in the prospectus, it is easy to see why.

“Our job is to ensure that young people find the right course for them, ensuring that they can achieve their full potential. York College is very much a stepping stone from school to either university or employment and the new prospectus gives a really great insight into student life.”

The college unveiled its prospectus at a launch event for those involved in giving careers advice to local youngsters. Advisors from Connexions and heads of careers from York schools attended.

Staff at the college are also hosting two open events over the coming week, for prospective students and their parents or carers, giving them the opportunity to visit the college and find out more about the 50 AS and A-levels and 80 vocational courses on offer.

The first takes place on Thursday, from 6pm to 8.30pm and the second is on Saturday, from 10am to noon.

The new £60 million York College opened in September 2007, and has 3,500 full-time students and 9,000 part-time ones. It also provides education and training to 3,000 employers across the region.

The college is officially a centre of vocational excellence for stonemasonry; rail engineering and signal engineering; hospitality and catering; and leisure and tourism.

....perhaps the youth of York could contemplate getting a job instead of wasting time getting useless qualifications, or perhaps learn to talk, read, spell and write properly? Even with a degree most will end up at Tesco or with temporary clerical work or sponging off the state (taxpayer)!

They do end up in Tesco already! Most students seem to spend more time in Tesco than they do in class/lecture.
They just prove that the college provides worthless courses leading to worthless qualifications!
