BECKY Storey, an assistant at the Happy Jays Nursery, is pictured in the nursery’s garden with, from left, Harry Price, Riley Mills, Millie Price and Libby Reynolds-Harding.
Children at the nursery have been getting their green fingers dirty by growing a selection of vegetables in the garden.
Carrots, pumpkins and sunflowers are flourishing at the nursery and childcare centre in Audax Close, Clifton Moor.
It’s all down to the efforts of a bunch of very young gardeners.
The three-and-four-year-olds who go to Happy Jays planted the seeds back in April and, according to Becky, they are delighted to see the fruits of their labours.
“It’s all about increasing the children’s knowledge and they have been measuring the sunflowers to see how far they’ve grown,” she said.
“They’ve had a great time, they’ve found it very interesting, and some of them have been bringing in their own vegetables from home.
“We do this every summer because it gives the children something new and different to focus on.”
