STUDENTS from Applefields Special School, in York, are holding a summer fair on Saturday.

As part of the event pupils are holding a fashion show and nearly- new clothes sale to be held in aid of national healthcare charity Sue Ryder Care.

Post-16 students from the school, have worked on the project as part of their Level 1 Preparation for Employment qualification with York Training Centre, part of City of York Council. They all leave Applefields School this summer either for further training or into jobs. The project has involved working as a team, planning and organising, designing posters appealing for donations of clothes, publicising the event, discussing different ideas and getting to know each others’ skills, strengths and weaknesses.

Sue Ryder Care fundraiser Jackie Sedgwick said: “Please come and support the group and help us raise vital funds. Sue Ryder Care has 14 care centres across the UK. The nearest centres are Holme Hall, the neurological centre in East Yorkshire, and Wheatfields Hospice, in Leeds. “Here the charity provides specialist care for life-limiting conditions including cancer, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, stroke and acquired brain injury.”

Gates open at 11am with the fashion parade starting at 1.30pm.
