East Yorkshire beaches fly the blue flag

TWO beaches in East Yorkshire have been awarded Blue Flag status by Keep Britain Tidy.

The north and south beaches at Bridlington are among 79 English beaches to be given the award, which celebrates good water quality, nine more than last year.

England is now ranked in the world’s top ten countries for having the most Blue Flag beaches, out of the 46 countries taking part in the scheme.

Bridlington’s beaches make their first appearance in the awards this year, along with Herne Bay in Kent, and Seaton Carew Centre in Tyne and Wear. Keep Britain Tidy chief executive Phil Barton said: “These high standards are testament to the hard work carried out by beach managers throughout the year in order to provide clean and safe beaches for everyone to enjoy, whether you live on the coast or are a visitor.”
