7:52am Monday 7th May 2012 in East Yorkshire news
A £10 MILLION project to upgrade a major East Yorkshire route will begin tomorrow after it got the final go-ahead from Transport Secretary Justine Greening last month.
The A164 Beverley to Humber Bridge Improvement Scheme is expected to safeguard jobs as well as make it easier to move around the county.
The work includes upgrading the single carriageway road between Willerby and Cottingham to dual carriageway, rebuilding four roundabouts to give them two-lane entry.
There will also be work on adding or improving cycling and pedestrian facilities. The work is expected to take a year to complete and will be done by Jackson Civil Engineering.
Coun Stephen Parnaby, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council which is contributing £2.3 million, said: “The council is delighted to announce that this scheme is now under way which, as well as improving the area’s transport infrastructure, will safeguard jobs.”
