Cliff fall woman leaves hospital

9:19am Saturday 5th May 2012

A WOMAN who had a lucky escape when her car plunged down a grassy bank and stopped just feet from a cliff edge has been released from hospital.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at North Landing, Flamborough, East Yorkshire as the BMW stopped precariously close to a 100ft drop.

It is thought the driver’s vehicle had careered through barriers at a nearby car park and hurtled towards the cliff edge on Tuesday evening.

A Humberside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The car was balanced precariously close to the edge of the cliff.

“The woman was conscious and, although she wasn’t physically trapped, she couldn’t get out of the car.

“Emergency services secured the car with a rope line and worked together to release the woman.”

The woman, 32, was winched to safety by the rescue helicopter and airlifted to hospital with a head injury, said police. Humberside Police said she was detained overnight for observations but has since been released.
