RESIDENTS in East Yorkshire have protested against a 49-home development which they say will cause too much traffic.
The Market Weighton scheme will see the houses and a medical centre built on land next to Northgate Vale, but campaigners say they do not want their road to be used as an access route.
Lovel Developments, the firm behind the scheme, said the road would be able to cater for any increase in traffic and disputed claims by the Action Against Access group that the new homes would lead to 200 extra cars passing down Northgate Vale every hour.
Both sides will now try to reach an agreement.
Florence Watts, who lives near the site, said: “It will affect our way of living, our peace and quiet, and it will just be so dangerous with all the extra traffic.”
Philip Lovel, managing director of Lovel Developments, said: “There will be some extra traffic, but when the road was put in it was built with a future phase in mind, which was the field we’re now looking to develop.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Council granted permission for the scheme in 2010.
