AN MP says he is “hopeful” East Riding of Yorkshire Council and three other local authorities will agree to cover the Humber Bridge’s debts and allow tolls to be reduced.
The four councils were asked to guarantee the bridge’s costs as part of a Government deal to halve its £330 million debt, but North East Lincolnshire Council refused to take an equal share and said the split should be based on population size.
Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy said a recent meeting appeared to have resolved the issues. He said: “Once the councils are signed up to the deal, it is only a matter of weeks before those tolls go down.”
