EAST Yorkshire’s only natural birth centre will not reopen after it was closed due to staff shortages.
The Jubilee Natural Birthing Centre, based at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham, was shut last July after the Care Quality Commission raised “major concerns” over staffing levels.
Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Hospital Trust said a new midwife-led unit, based at the Hull Women’s Hospital, would open next January.
The trust’s chief executive, Phil Morley, said the decision would make “midwifery-led birth a more viable option” for women in East Yorkshire.
