HUMBERSIDE Fire and Rescue Service is reminding residents to check their smoke alarms are working as part of a safety initiative.
They also advise that people make sure smoke alarms are fitted on each level of their home and are in good working order by testing them regularly.
Steve Duffield, community safety manager at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: “January is an opportunity for a fresh start so we are encouraging everyone to make sure they have enough smoke alarms in their home and that they work.
Smoke alarms can only do their job if they are in good working order.”
The advice is to test smoke alarms by pushing the button every month, they are less than ten-years-old and fit them on landings and in hallways.
