DEMOLITION work on town centre properties will begin in December as the next stage of Bridlington’s regeneration gets underway.

An exhibition outlining proposals for the second phase of the Bridlington Integrated Transport Plan will also take place.

The projects form part of the council’s Area Action Plan (AAP) for the town and to enable major improvements to the road network.

The first phase of demolition will include vacant and derelict properties in Palace Avenue which have been acquired by the council through agreement with the previous owners.

Further demolition of properties in Hilderthorpe Road is planned over the next 12 months. This will allow for the realignment of Beck Hill and a new bridge to be built, the widening of Hilderthorpe Road and improved traffic management. A new public space will be created and a transport interchange near the train station. The work is part of the Bridlington Integrated Transport Plan (ITP) and has a programme allocation in the Local Transport Board plan, subject to final approvals from the Humber Local Economic Partnership.

The improvements will allow sites to come forward for redevelopment and allow access for new areas of car parking.

Council leader Cllr Stephen Parnaby said: “This work will bring real long-term benefit to Bridlington and help to create the right conditions for developers to invest in the town. I am delighted that things are moving forward and the work shows that this council and its partners have a real commitment to invest in the town’s regeneration.”

People can view the plans and meet the project team at a public exhibition outlining works at The Spa Bridlington on Wednesday, December 3, from 10am-5pm and at the Bridlington Town Team meeting at 6pm, both at The Spa Bridlington.
