A GROUP of motorcyclists have stolen jewellery from a Bridlington shop after cutting a hole in the window.

Humberside Police said the thieves struck at 4.50pm yesterday at Griffins Jewellers in Prospect Street.

"A number of men on motorcycles wearing helmets are believed to have used tools to cut a hole in the shop window before stealing jewellery from the display," said a spokesman.

"The store was open at the time of the incident but no members of staff nor customers were injured.

"Police attended and cordoned off the shop and crime scene investigators conducted inquiries yesterday evening and investigations are continuing today."

Th spokesman said statements had been taken from a number of people but detectives would like to trace other witnesses, particularly anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the break-in itself or the motorcyclists arriving or leaving the vicinity.

"There are reports some members of the public may have been using their mobile telephone recording facilities at the time of the crime and police would like to hear from those individuals." Anyone with information should call 101.
