A FORMULA 1 racing car was wheeled in to mark the opening of a new £2 million service station on a key route from York.

Pocklington Services Shell, on the A1079, attracted streams of visitors over its two day opening event, as well as an appearance from a Ferrari racing car.

The Brookfield Group-owned services was officially opened by the chairman of RMI Petrol Retailers' Association, Brian Madderson, as well as the Mayor of Pocklington Councillor Paul West, and town crier Geoff Sheasby, and representatives from Shell.

The Nisa Local store also officially opened along with a Subway, Costa Coffee, and Fresh Bake bakery.

Raj Patel, site retail partner, said: “The open day was an outstanding success thanks to the help of the Nisa team who did a fantastic job in a short space of time.

"It was a great way to introduce ourselves to the community and show them what services and fantastic products we have to offer."

Mr Patel said he intended to broaden their services further by expanding the development by summer 2015 with a restaurant and coffee drive-through.
