A REPORT into the quality of care for dementia patients has been welcomed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

It was compiled by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following a nationwide inspection of care to support people with dementia to maintain their physical and mental health.

Nowhere hospital or care home was inspected in East Yorkshire, but a series of improvements were recommended, which include encouraging care homes to take action to create dementia-friendly environments and implement systems to evaluate the impact of training and support for all the members of staff.

Councillor Richard Harrap, portfolio holder for adult and carer services, with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “There is a multi-agency, Older People’s Mental Health Action Group already established in the East Riding and the council will ensure the recommendations of the report will be incorporated into the Dementia Strategy. which is currently being refreshed by this group.”
