EAST Riding of Yorkshire council has set out new guidance for people buying or renting holiday homes after a failed bid by residents to live in their properties all year round.

Owners of 73 holiday homes at Lakeminster Park, near Beverley, recently lost a legal fight with the council over planning permission to make the homes permanent residences.

Now the council has said that during discussions with Lakeminster residents, they realised clearer guidance was needed on planning rules about holiday accommodation.

Now the authority has decided to publish a guidance note as well as a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) on its website.

Pete Ashcroft, head of planning and development management at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council would advise anyone who is considering the purchase of holiday accommodation or who is already occupying holiday accommodation and has any concerns if they comply with the holiday occupancy restrictions, to take their own legal advice, which is independent of both the council and the accommodation’s owner/operator.”
