A BOUNDARY row is growing up between East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) and its neighbours in Hull City Council. The city council has set up a commission of inquiry to look at the possibility of extending its boundaries over 12 current East Riding parishes.

However, ERYC has insisted it was never invited to take part in the commission’s work, and has instead organised its own postal referendum to ask the 70,000 people in the 12 border parishes what they think of the plans.

A public consultation will also take in the views of people living in the wider East Riding.

East Riding council leader Stephen Parnaby said ERYC had only been invited to send an observer to the commission’s meeting, and has previously dismissed the Hull council’s moves as “a land grab” while Hull council’s has insisted people in the boundary villages would be better off after a change.

The referendum results will be counted on Monday, September 29, with the results of that and the public consultation announced shortly after.
