EAST Riding Council (ERC) has won praise from a team of peer reviewers in a recent report.
The council hosted an external team of local government assessors, led by Steve Robinson, the chief executive of Cheshire West and Chester Council, in April.
The team praised ERC for strong performance and financial effectiveness against a challenging environment for the public sector.
The peer challenges are part of a national Local Government Association programme for sector-led improvement, where councils can agree the key areas in which their performance will be examined by a team of local government ‘critical friends’. ERC nominated three areas for inspection — financial sustainability of the council, sustainable economic growth in the East Riding, and flood risk management.
The final report, received this month, praised many areas and gave the council areas to work on including pooled budgets and shared services, support for small businesses, and skills development.
