THIRTEEN East Yorkshire towns are to share a £300,000 fund to revitalise their high streets.

The cash has been set aside by East Riding Council to help regenerate town centres including Beverley, Driffield and Pocklington, and was inspired by the “Portas Pilot” schemes around the county.

Groups can bid for a share of the funding for their towns, if they can prove local resources will also be invested and the proposals can be delivered.

Cllr Jane Evison, the East Riding’s portfolio holder for economy, investment and inequalities, said she wants to see business groups, community groups and town and parish councils work together to boost their town centres in both the day time and night time economy.

The council will run three rounds of funding bids to give groups time to come up with their plans between September 2014 and January 2015.
