A campaign has been launched to cut the number of pensioners in the East Riding who become victims of "catastrophic" falls.
Falls Awareness Week aims to highlight simple ways that the elderly can keep themselves safe on the stairs and around the home.
They include eye tests, being careful about taking medication and drinking alcohol, keeping active and ridding homes of tripping hazards.
Council and NHS bosses have teamed up for the initiative from June 16-22 to reduce some of the 20,000 falls a year suffered by the local elderly.
Dr Sivarajan Krishnaraj, of East Riding of Yorkshire CCG Governing Body member, said: "The impact of repeated falls or even a single fall can be catastrophic to someone’s ability to self-care and live independently."
