EAST Riding of Yorkshire Council is giving away more than 5,000 bags of compost made from the garden waste and food waste residents put in their brown bins.

There are 10 compost giveaways across the East Riding in May. Residents will each be given two free 15 kg bags and council staff will put them into the cars. Those without cars will be able to take along a barrow.

Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning, said: “The giveaways are the council’s way of recognising the dedication of residents to recycling and to composting their food waste and garden waste in the brown bins.”

The giveaways will start at 4pm. They include one on May 13 at Market car park, Market Place, Market Weighton on May 15 at the old council depot, Beck View Road, Beverley, on May 21 Hilderthorpe coach park, Hilderthorpe Road, Bridlington and on May 22 at the old council depot, Seavy Road entrance, Goole.
