COUNCIL chiefs in East Yorkshire are to stage an event which will outline how local businesses can work with the public sector as financial pressures continue to bite.

Monday';s event at The Spa, Bridlington, between 5pm and 7pm will include presentations from East Riding of Yorkshire Council's leader Stephen Parnaby and two chief officers.

The authority spends £254 million a year with businesses and the session will cover its financial position and how its procurement processes work.

Coun Parnaby said: "We are starting to see an improving economic picture nationally, with growth returning to all sectors, and the council has and will continue to play a crucial role in the recovery.

"The main goal of the event is to inform businesses and promote the opportunities for joint working with the council. The majority of the council's spend - 66 per cent - is with organisations and businesses within Yorkshire, a great achievement in comparison with other local authorities where average local spend is just 30 per cent."
